Sports Commission
Purpose
The Sports Commission is an advisory body appointed by the City Council whose primary purpose is to attract, retain, and facilitate sports events, tournaments, and organizations in Sealy, thereby helping our city realize the economic, social, and community-building benefits of sports. The Sports Commission shall:

 

  • Establish goals and priorities for the Sports Commission,
  • Advise the City Council on matters related to current and future sports events in the city,
  • Advise, support, and collaborate with organizations within the community to attract sports tournaments and sports tourism to the city,
  • Work with the Parks Board to ensure adequate and appropriate facilities exist for current and future sports events and tournaments, and
  • Represent the city at approved sports conferences and meetings that increase the potential for events coming to Sealy.

Meetings
Regular meetings of the Sports Commission are conducted as follows:

Date: First (1st) Wednesday of each month
Time: 6:00 P.M.
Place: City Hall Council Chambers, 415 Main Street, Sealy, Texas

Special meetings of the Sports Commission may also be called by the Chairperson, by written request of a quorum of the voting members of the Sports Commission, or by the City Council.

The public is welcome to attend all meetings of the Sports Commission.
Appointments
Individuals desiring appointment to the Sports Commission are to complete an application of the City and submit it to the City Secretary no later than the deadline announced for each appointing cycle.

Eligibility requirements:
  • Voting members shall be registered to vote in the state of Texas.
  • A minimum of four (4) members shall reside within the city limits of the City of Sealy.
  • All members shall demonstrate an active interest in the promotion of sporting events in the City of Sealy.
  • Voting members shall not be a member of the City Council of the City of Sealy or a full-time, part-time, or contract employee of the City of Sealy.
